  Splicing of Optical Ground Wire

 
 

SCOPE

 

The latest trend for power corporations is to use fiber optics for control and communication between various buildings. A new product, Optical Ground Wire, replaces the standard ground wire placed on high voltage transmission lines. This ground wire provides all the standard grounding for the lightning protection purposes, but also contains singlemode fibres for communication purposes. Nova Scotia Power Corporation is placing Optical Ground Wire on all new High Voltage transmission lines being built in that Province.

 
 

PROJECT RESPONSIBILITY:

 

NEL GROUP has been the successful bidder for all the splicing of the ground bid to date. Four phases have been completed as subcontractors to two different transmission line construction companies, and one phase was completed directly for Nova Scotia Power Corporation.
